Tom Yum Not Yum


We all know, and even love, the spicy yet can’t-stop-slurping Thai soup, Tom Yum. And one raved-about Tom Yum dish is the seafood soup noodle served at P’AOR (ร้านพี่อ้อ) in Bangkok in the Phaya Thai, Ratchathewi district. It has been described as the best Tom Yum noodles in Bangkok but I beg to differ. It’s NOT that the dish is dishwater.  Rather, the dish and restaurant is over-rated. Perhaps it is a victim of it’s own popularity.

I trekked (literally) to P’aor after a whirlwind tour of Platinum Mall. The recommendation was to take a Tuk Tuk for 40Bhat to the small eating shop. But with sturdy walking shoes, it was a solid 20-30 minutes walk straight down the road, under a busy highway, past a sign announcing a mosque (Masjid) then a few steps further to a market-like area where the landmark is an overhead pedestrian bridge and a Singapore (!!)…
